BEAVERBROOK — SURREY HILLS

Nestled in the heart of the Surrey Hills lies the quintessentially English estate, Beaverbrook. A property bursting with both charm and history in equal measure, Beaverbrook offers a seemingly limitless amount of things to do and pockets to explore. The former home of celebrated publisher Lord Beaverbrook, the estate is set across 470 acres, and offers a sense of luxury throughout but without compromising on character and warmth. Comprised of The House, The Garden House and The Coach House, Beaverbrook is a place to indulge, to relax, and to celebrate.

Each property within the estate is wholly unique but remains cohesive, with The House featuring the property’s iconic Japanese grill restaurant, the vibrant Sir Frank’s Bar, and numerous cozy nooks all complete with crackling fireplaces, books to get lost in, and an endless selection of board games for wholesome fun. The House also has a sumptuous cinema, with daily movies on offer alongside a library of films. The Garden House exudes a more understated charm, and is complete with its own restaurant and bar. Finally, The Coach House is where one will find the renowned spa, gym, indoor and outdoor pools, and a delicious deli.

Spend the warmer months at Beaverbrook dining in their spectacular hot air balloon installation and at wintertime you can frolic on the grand skating rink with the Surrey Hills as your backdrop. And as if Beaverbrook did not offer enough as it is, the property recently announced the launch of 21 new rooms within the estate's vast woodlands called The Village. We cannot wait to see what this new addition brings to the estate, and expect great things!

ESTELLE MANOR — OXFORDSHIRE

A country club and hotel perched on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, in Oxfordshire, Estelle Manor is surrounded by over 3,000 acres of parkland and lush gardens. Having recently opened, the property has garnered enormous attention, and it is little surprise why. Estelle Manor is resplendent with textured, opulent interiors, creative cuisine and exceptional service. Eating is an event at the manor, with four restaurants to choose from – Brasserie, featuring an all-day menu of seasonal favourites, The Billiards Room, which celebrates traditional Chinese dishes, The Glasshouse, which – surrounded by a walled garden – offers a natural source of heritage fruit and vegetables and, finally, The Living Room which doubles as estate’s main bar.

Estelle Manor considers the needs of every kind of traveller, with the property additionally boasting a workspace, a gym with a class studio and padel tennis courts, and a kids club. And while the property already offers a fulsome experience (did we mention the Riviera-inspired 25-metre outdoor pool?), there is even more to come, including an extraordinary 3,000 square metre Roman inspired bathhouse and spa.

The Estelle Suite at Estelle Manor, named in homage after their muse, Lady Estelle, the ultimate hostess.

HECKFIELD PLACE — HAMPSHIRE

Heckfield Place takes us to the Hampshire countryside just an hour from London, where the red-brick Georgian 1790 building has been artfully redesigned, with a core focus on sustainability. A stately property with 400 acres of meadows awaits you with an array of activities to inspire and delight. With the estate divided into two parts, the main house is – in a word – grand. With ornate panelling, imposing fireplaces, high ceilings and a sweeping staircase, this part of the property is enough to render you speechless. The second, newer part is naturally updated without losing charm and authenticity. Featuring two restaurants, the Green Michelin-starred Marle is where one can enjoy all meals of the day, whereas Hearth is a converted stable that serves heartfelt dishes cooked on an open fire.

For time spent in between meals, guests can enjoy the truly exceptional Bothy by Wildsmith, a space closely connected with the natural world, complete with healing thermal and hydro-therapies. Here, guests are encouraged to leave their shoes, belongings and even devices behind, in order to truly connect with their surroundings. Bathed in light and encased in glass with enormous skylights, it offers a truly intimate, soul-soothing environment.

Other hotel features include a private cinema, cycling, hiking, fishing, boating, wild swimming, falconry, and even a regular calendar of interactive workshops. In short, Heckfield Place is truly a destination in its own right, and with the thoughtful amenities, varied spaces and diverse activities on offer, boredom will never be an option.

THE NEWT — SOMERSET

The Newt is nothing short of magnificent. A working estate in Somerset, built upon acres of splendid gardens, woodland, farmland and cyder orchards, this is where luxury meets nature. Offering a true refuge, The Newt conjures a feeling of serenity, with each season capturing something different yet equally alluring.

Beyond the rooms, which are luxurious in nature but in a way that incorporates the property’s rich heritage, The Newt features a relaxing spa with all of the bells and whistles (including a hammam spa and rasul mud chamber), not one but two swimming pools, a gym and spaces to enjoy morning yoga, croquet and badminton. All of these features make the property’s spot on the recently unveiled ‘The World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2023’ list very well-deserved.

After a day spent exploring the grounds of the property, or perhaps instead indulging in the spa, guests can dine in the Botanical Rooms where feasts are prepared using vegetables from the estate, cuts of meat from the drying room and day boat fish caught from the Dorset coast. Alternatively, opt instead for the elevated, glass-walled Garden Cafe or the minimalist, open-plan Kitchen in The Farmyard. For a unique experience, book a tour of the cathedral-like cyder cellar, or peek into the fascinating life of bees and their hives at the Beezantium. So much more than a country house hotel, The Newt is a place you will not soon forget.
